Power of Reflection

Power of Reflection

Anything worth achieving is going to cost you something, otherwise is it really valuable? You have to exchange your excuses for action.

“When you really want something to happen, the whole world conspires to help you achieve it.” ― Paulo Cohelo

This time I want to share about the dynamic and incredible personal growth I've experienced through the power of reflection. Taking time out to assess and check our personal GPS system. Reflection is a powerful and potent allie which I use repeatedly with my clients which I mentor in both the business and personal world.

"Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action" - Peter F Drucker

As a nation and as Entrepreneurs life is so fast paced and in many cases that's how we like it. But take the regime of an Olympian they are super dedicated and militant in their regime, a life full of discipline, tenacity and endurance. They work tirelessly, but one factor which often gets overlooked is the power and habitual lifestyle that rest and recovery brings to keep them at peak optimal performance and its no different in the "Business" world.

Reflection turns experience into insight

Whenever we meet someone, experience something different, good or bad, get in the habit of consciously reflecting on the event which can really highlight a problem area or encourage a strength which needs you to respond or evolve your understanding or posture towards something. Companies like Woolworth's and HMV stood still for years, they never moved with the times, they rested on their Loral's. I can't help thinking if the company had taken time to pause, understand what their experience was trying to tell them, and make changes to their DNA, things could have looked very different

Everyone needs a quiet time to reflect

I mentor numerous clients on how to slow down, most of them are driving 100 mph in the fast lane that they miss the turn off. They have no problem going up through the gears but struggle to come down them. We all need to create a thinking place, even if its for 10 minutes a day. When we relax our brain falls into "Alpha state" and we enter our "genius" often some of our greatest ideas come while we are on holiday or in the shower. We must all take time to sharpen the sword, if your repeatedly wielding the ax, your ax will become blunt. If you're just going through life, wielding that ax, driving 100 miles an hour and don't take time to reflect your missing SIGNIFICANT lessons which will keep you from achieving peak performance

Pausing with purpose stimulates positive thoughts

Time alone allows people to sort through their experience, put it into perspective, and plan for the future. I solely believe that a minute of thought is worth more than an hour of talk.
I challenge you to be disciplined to stop, reflect and carry out an eternal GPS reading because it has the potential to change your life for the better.
"When we are able to create a lonely place in the middle of your actions and concerns, you're successes and failures slowly can lose some of their power over you" - Henri Nouwen

We must all take time to investigate our own life, sometimes the thoughts and feelings we find during times of reflection need to be incubated and mulled over, when you reflect it often reveals little secrets about you and the way you do things. That's very exciting!!!
